Farris E. Moore

U.S. Veteran

Farris E. Moore, age 94 of Portage went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 5, 2013. He was surrounded by his loving family at the Horton VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso. He was born on February 1, 1919 in Sneedville, Tennessee to the late Anderson and Tempie Moore. He married Gayle Phipps on June 10th 1950 in St. Joseph Michigan. Farris worked as an Electrician for U.S. Gypsum Retiring in 1981 after 35 years of service. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII. Farris and Gayle lived in the Woodmar area of Hammond until 1996 when they moved to Portage. He was a longtime member of Bible Baptist Church in Portage. Farris loved to garden and share his bountiful harvest with family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, and baking pies and pizzas.

He is survived by 2 sons, Douglas A. (Linda) Moore of Elkhart, IN; Bruce E. (Sandra) Moore of Cary, NC; 1 daughter, Beth Ann (Donald) Halfman of Portage, IN; 1 brother, Willard Moore of Amada, AZ; 1 brother-in-law, Robert Phipps of CA; 6 grandchildren, Brian (Ashley) Moore, Christopher (Janet) Moore, Nathaniel Moore, Sarah (Kyle) Lesar, Steven Halfman, Matthew Halfman, 5 great-grandchildren, Andrew, Charlie, Sean, Liberty, and Hope.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle Moore, and 9 brothers and sisters. Memorial donations in Farris’ honor may be made to Bible Baptist Church or to the VNA Hospice of Porter County.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Bible Baptist Church, 6659 U.S. Hwy 6, Portage with Pastor Don Good officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville. Visitation is Friday, March 8, 2013 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Rees Funeral Home, Olson Chapel, 5341 Central Ave. (219) 762-3013. www.Reesfunerlhomes.com.
